In a 2026 interview with Tara Wells, Holmquist described helping Leland Cobain secretly obtain the official autopsy report while keeping the request hidden from Leland's own sons. Copies were planed to be directed toward Tom Grant, the private investigator Courtney Love hired to find her missing husband Kurt Cobain.
After Leland's decline, Holmquist claims that Gary Cobain intercepted the document and offered it to him for $50,000. Holmquist offered $2,000. No sale occured. An incomplete version later leaked. Holmquist and Wells stayed silent for roughly eleven years, then spoke once the material was already circulating. It remains unknown why Holmquist and Wells would record themselves on tape with Leland Cobain signing a piece of paper.

Holmquist calls himself neutral while stating that Kurt "never had a legitimate investigation." These are the standard lines of a conspiracy theory that has never overturned the official suicide findings of the Seattle Police Department and King County Medical Examiner. They continue the pattern of elevating private documents and selective testimony while minimizing Kurt's documented depression, prior suicide attempts, and Heroin addiction.

Concealing a medical-record request from Leland's children, entertaining a high-dollar sale for the same document, remaining silent for more than a decade, and then speaking only after an incomplete copy leaked on Tom Grant's website cobaincase.com is not restraint. It is opportunism that keeps a long-debunked narrative alive at the expense of accurate understanding of mental illness and addiction. Childhood rides do not create a right to move sensitive family records into that ecosystem. The official ruling remains suicide. The rest continues to mislead, and Holmquist has chosen to remain part of the process. All while the autopsy report was never of any value for the "Soaked in Bleach" hybrid docu makers:
